Mobile Klinik Opens First Mobile Repair Shop

The first Mobile Klinik mobile phone repair shop, backed by former Rogers and Wind Mobile executives, opened this Monday in Ottawa at the St. Laurent Centre, 1200 St. Laurent Boulevard.

Mobile Klinik aims to bring professional, branded smartphone repair services to Canadians. The idea comes from former rivals – now business partners – ex Wind Mobile CEO Ken Campbell and former head of Rogers Communications’ wireless and cable divisions Rob Bruce.

“As wireless penetration exceeds 80%, Mobile Klink reflects a much-needed shift in the industry, from selling devices to servicing them,” said Rob Bruce, Investor/Partner, Mobile Klinik and former President of wireless at Rogers. “We’re excited to launch our Mobile Klinik concept store in Ottawa as the first step in a national expansion program that will meet the needs of Canadian consumers for fast, professional, warrantied repair. ”

The repair shop offers repair for mobile phones in under 60 minutes for everything from cracked screens to water damage, and a 12-month warranty. Ahead of the launch, technicians were sent for training in France.

“What we wanted to do is to make a name for ourselves in this business,” said Youssef Botros, general manager of Mobile Klinik, who recently finished training in France and Germany this summer. “These phones cost a thousand dollars now. It’s very expensive to buy another one if your screen breaks. We wanted to provide a service that’s convenient for customers and quick, and efficient, and professional.”

Mobile Klinik launches at a time when there is no shortage of cell phone repair shops, but represents a fresh mindset with the 60-minute repair time and partnerships with manufacturers such as Samsung to offer official mobile phone parts for repairs.

Mobile Klinik plans to open 60 stores across Canada over the next three years.
