Everything to Know About the iPhone 18 Series

Apple’s latest iPhone generation is here. And this year’s rollout looks a little different.

Apple has officially introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, along with something entirely new: the company’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. The Pro models arrived on September 18, while the Duo follows in October. And if you’re wondering where the standard iPhone 18 is, you haven’t missed it. Apple hasn’t announced one yet.

That makes the iPhone 18 lineup a little more unique than usual. Some models and specs are official, while other devices reportedly planned for the generation remain rumours.

Here’s what we know about the iPhone 18 series so far, including features, specs, Canadian prices and release dates… and what could still be coming.

What Is the iPhone 18 Lineup?

Right now, Apple’s official iPhone 18 lineup includes two models: the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Both became available on September 18, 2026.

Apple also introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. Although it doesn’t carry the iPhone 18 name, it was introduced alongside this generation of devices and shares technology such as the A20 Pro chip. Duo pre-orders start October 16, with availability beginning October 23.

The standard iPhone 18 is another story. Apple hasn’t announced it. Current reporting points to a spring 2027 launch alongside an iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2, meaning Apple appears to be splitting this generation across two launch periods.

Model Status Launch timing
iPhone 18 Pro Confirmed September 18, 2026
iPhone 18 Pro Max Confirmed September 18, 2026
iPhone Duo Confirmed October 23, 2026
iPhone 18 Reported Spring 2027
iPhone 18e Reported Spring 2027
iPhone Air 2 Reported Spring 2027

If you’re comparing this generation with earlier releases, our iPhone Evolution guide looks back at how Apple’s phones have changed over the years.

When Is the iPhone 18 Coming Out?

It depends on which iPhone you mean.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are available as of September 18, 2026. The iPhone Duo arrives a little later, with pre-orders opening October 16 and availability beginning October 23.

But Apple hasn’t announced a release date for the regular iPhone 18—or even officially announced the device itself.

Reports leading into Apple’s fall launch consistently pointed toward the standard iPhone 18 moving to spring 2027, potentially alongside the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. That would represent a major change from the familiar schedule where standard and Pro iPhones arrive together each fall.

Until Apple confirms its plans, however, spring 2027 should be treated as an expected timeframe rather than an official release date.

Which iPhone 18 Models Launched in September 2026?

Apple’s September 2026 launch focused on the Pro models. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are available as of September 18. Apple also revealed the iPhone Duo as part of its latest generation of iPhones, but the foldable won’t actually reach customers until October 23.

So, if you’ve been waiting for a regular iPhone 18 rather than a Pro model, there’s no September release to shop. Based on current reporting, you could be waiting until 2027.

iPhone 18 Pro

The iPhone 18 Pro packs some substantial changes into its 6.3-inch design, especially if photography and performance are high on your wish list.

One of the biggest upgrades is its 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Instead of relying on a single fixed aperture, the camera can adjust how much light enters and alter depth of field. Apple offers four aperture settings—ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, and ƒ/4.0—with automatic adjustment as well as manual Pro controls.

The Pro camera system also includes 48MP Ultra Wide and 48MP Telephoto cameras, with up to 8x optical-quality zoom. An 18MP Center Stage front camera can automatically adjust framing and lets you move between portrait and landscape framing without physically rotating your phone.

Under the hood is Apple’s A20 Pro chip, paired with a next-generation vapour chamber designed to dissipate heat during demanding tasks. Apple says the new cooling system has three times the surface area and helps deliver up to 40% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

The redesigned Dynamic Island can also display up to three Live Activities at once, while the 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display supports ProMotion up to 120Hz. The phone comes in Burgundy, Glacier, Silver, and Black.

iPhone 18 Pro Max

Want the Pro experience with more screen and battery life? That’s where the iPhone 18 Pro Max comes in.

The Pro Max increases the display to 6.9 inches, again with a Super Retina XDR display and ProMotion up to 120Hz. Otherwise, it shares major features with the smaller Pro, including the A20 Pro chip, vapour-chamber cooling, variable-aperture 48MP Fusion Main camera and up to 8x optical-quality zoom.

Battery life is one of the clearest differences. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max reaches up to 45 hours—which Apple describes as the longest battery life in an iPhone. Both also support faster wired charging, reaching up to 50% charge in around 15 minutes with a compatible adapter.

That could make the Pro Max particularly appealing to heavy users, mobile gamers, travellers and anyone who spends a lot of time streaming on their phone.

Size isn’t automatically better, though. Think about how comfortably you use and carry your phone, along with camera, battery, and performance requirements. Our cell phone buying guide covers some of the factors worth weighing before settling on a device.

Apple’s First Foldable iPhone

After years of rumours about an “iPhone 18 Fold” or “iPhone 18 Flip,” Apple has officially entered the foldable-phone market. And its device is called the iPhone Duo.

The Duo is a book-style foldable, rather than the clamshell design you might picture when you hear “flip phone.” Closed, there’s a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display for everyday phone use. Open it, and you get a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR folding display—50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display.

That extra space changes how you can use the phone. Split View allows two apps to run side by side, while different positions let you stand the Duo up for hands-free FaceTime calls, videos, or StandBy. Apple has reworked iOS 27 experiences around the dual-display design and its different orientations.

Durability is naturally a big question for any folding phone. The Duo uses a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover, a scratch-resistant coating on its inner display, and Ceramic Shield on the front and back. Apple also gives it an IP68 water- and dust-resistance rating.

Inside is the same A20 Pro family powering the Pro phones, combined with vapour cooling and a dual-battery system. Apple says the Duo offers up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display and 44 hours using the outer display.

Its camera setup is different from the triple-camera Pro system. The Duo uses a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, including 48MP Main and Ultra Wide cameras, and takes advantage of its folding design for features such as hands-free shooting.

The iPhone Duo comes in Night Sky and Star White, with availability beginning October 23.

Is the Foldable iPhone Called the iPhone 18 Fold or iPhone 18 Ultra?

No. Apple’s foldable is officially the iPhone Duo.

Before its announcement, you may have seen names such as iPhone 18 Fold, iPhone 18 Ultra, iPhone 18 Flip, or even iPhone 18 flip phone used online. They were unofficial names associated with Apple’s long-rumoured foldable.

Now that the device has been revealed, there’s no ambiguity: Apple calls it iPhone Duo.

And “flip phone” isn’t an especially accurate description of its design. The Duo opens horizontally into a tablet-like 7.6-inch display rather than flipping vertically like a traditional clamshell phone.

When Is the Standard iPhone 18 Coming Out?

For now, the standard iPhone 18 remains unannounced.

Multiple reports have indicated that Apple plans to move its regular iPhone 18 to spring 2027, with the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 also expected around that period.

Rumours have associated the standard model with an A20 chip and Apple’s C2 modem, but those iPhone 18 specs have not been confirmed by Apple.

There has even been a more recent, considerably less established rumour suggesting Apple could change how the standard model and Air successor are positioned. That claim conflicts with the longer-running reports describing the iPhone 18 and Air 2 as separate devices, so it’s another good reason not to treat the anticipated spring lineup as settled yet.

In other words, anyone interested specifically in the regular iPhone 18 may want to wait for Apple rather than make a decision based on rumoured specifications.

iPhone 18 Features and Specs

Because Apple hasn’t announced the standard iPhone 18 yet, there isn’t a complete set of official iPhone 18 series specs to compare. But we can compare the devices Apple has revealed:

Feature iPhone 18 Pro iPhone 18 Pro Max iPhone Duo
Display 6.3-inch 6.9-inch 5.4-inch outer / 7.6-inch inner
Refresh rate ProMotion up to 120Hz ProMotion up to 120Hz ProMotion up to 120Hz
Chip A20 Pro A20 Pro A20 Pro
Main camera 48MP Fusion, variable aperture 48MP Fusion, variable aperture 48MP Fusion
Ultra Wide 48MP 48MP 48MP
Telephoto 48MP 48MP —
Optical-quality zoom Up to 8x Up to 8x —

Design Traditional Traditional Book-style foldable
Colours Burgundy, Glacier, Silver, Black Burgundy, Glacier, Silver, Black Night Sky, Star White
Availability Sept. 18 Sept. 18 Oct. 23

The biggest dividing line isn’t necessarily performance—the three devices all use A20 Pro—but how you want to use your phone. The Pro models favour a familiar design with Apple’s most advanced camera system, while the Duo prioritizes a dramatically different display and multitasking experience.

iPhone 18 Prices: What Does Each Model Cost?

Apple has confirmed Canadian starting prices for its new devices.

The iPhone 18 Pro price starts at $1,749 CAD, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,899 CAD. The iPhone Duo starts at $2,999 CAD, putting Apple’s first foldable into a significantly different category. These starting prices correspond to the base configurations shown by Apple Canada.

There is currently no official standard iPhone 18 price because that phone hasn’t been announced. Any iPhone 18 prices you see for the standard model should therefore be treated as speculation until Apple confirms the device.

Price is also only one part of the equation. Storage, battery life, camera requirements, how long you intend to keep the phone, and what you actually do with it can all affect whether paying for a higher-end model makes sense. Our guide to what affects the price of a phone digs deeper into the factors behind smartphone value.

Which iPhone 18 Model Is Right for You?

The right choice comes down to which upgrades will actually make a difference in your day-to-day use.

  • Consider the iPhone 18 Pro if: you want the new A20 Pro performance and advanced camera features in the smaller 6.3-inch form factor. The variable-aperture Main camera and expanded Pro controls are especially interesting for photographers and content creators.
  • Consider the iPhone 18 Pro Max if: battery life and screen size are priorities. You get the same core Pro experience on a 6.9-inch display, plus up to 45 hours of video playback.
  • Consider the iPhone Duo if: you genuinely want a foldable. Its 7.6-inch inner screen and dual-display features offer experiences the Pro models simply can’t replicate, including side-by-side apps and multiple hands-free positions.
  • Wait for the standard iPhone 18 if: you don’t need a Pro model or foldable and you’re happy with your current phone for now. The regular model hasn’t been announced, so waiting means you’ll be able to compare Apple’s actual specs and pricing instead of making a decision based on rumours.

Still on the fence? Our guide to when to upgrade your iPhone can help you decide whether your current device has more life left in it.

Should You Upgrade to the iPhone 18 Series?

New tech is exciting, but a new iPhone isn’t automatically the right move for everyone.

The iPhone 18 Pro series makes a stronger case if you’re coming from an older device and will benefit from improvements in battery life, cameras, performance, and display technology. The Duo is an even bigger departure if you’ve specifically been waiting for Apple to make a foldable.

But think about why you want to replace your current phone. A weak battery, damaged screen, or charging problem doesn’t necessarily mean the whole device has reached the end of its useful life. Our repair vs. replace guide can help you weigh your options, and Mobile Klinik offers iPhone repair if fixing your current device makes more sense.

A New Chapter for the iPhone

The iPhone 18 generation isn’t following Apple’s old playbook.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max arrived on September 18, bringing the A20 Pro, variable-aperture photography, and significant battery and performance improvements. Next comes something genuinely different: the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable, on October 23.

What happens next is still less certain. The standard iPhone 18 hasn’t been announced, and reports pointing to a spring 2027 release remain just that—reports.

That means there’s no need to rush. Whether the right choice is an iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, Duo, waiting for Apple’s next announcement, or simply keeping your current phone going a little longer, the best upgrade is the one that fits how you actually use your phone.
